The First Post! – The Ubuntu Experience

I know there are thousands of blogs on ubuntu out there, I’ve read so many, each of them giving the bloggers idea on ubuntu… These are my views and experiences on an OS i’m begining to love.

For those of you who don’t know what ubuntu is : Ubuntu is an African word meaning, “humanity towards others”. Ubuntu is sponsored by Canonical Ltd, owned by South African entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth.
Ubuntu Strives to provide an up-to-date yet stable operating system for the average user and having a strong focus on usability and ease of installation. It is a derivative of Debian.

Well i switched to ubuntu a few months ago, after being recommened to my by my friend from The US… He told me that i could actually download the OS right off the net, i’ve never used a linux OS before, i’ve seen some of friends fiddling with Red Hat Linux. but it wasn’t so much of an eye candy thing for me, so i was never interested in it. Well i put in a free order for the cd, took between 4-6 weeks but it finally got to me.. MY very own Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon).
One of the main reasons for me switching to linux was because of its stability, and invulnerability to most windows based viruses and i couldn’t take the constant reformatting and crashing of my windows pc.

Ubuntu’s website says “You’ll never need to go back”. and they’re actually right. after installing ubuntu,i’ve never needed to go back to windows.. Ofcourse there are certain softwares that still don’t work on linux distros. but those are only a select few..

When hardy Heron, Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Long Term Support) was released, i was instantly amazed by the speed, load up was much faster for me.. Although i still havne’t figured out the new PulseAudio. Maybe i will figure things out as time goes by.
